Dinant, Belgium,Nov 11 (Jiji Press)–Japanese saxophonists Wataru Hirai and Kenta Igarashi won prizes in the 8th International Adolphe Sax Competition held in Dinant, Belgium, up until Saturday.
Hirai, 23, from Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture, finished 4th and Igarashi, 21, from Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, 5th in the competition, among one of the most prominent global competitions for classic saxophonists.
The occasion, held every 4 years in concept, started in 1994 in Dinant, the birth place of Adolphe Sax, that designed the saxophone.
“I’m very happy I was selected a finalist. I’m relieved that it’s over,” Hirai claimed with a smile, speaking with press reporters after the competition.
