Running in the outdoors sometimes indicates coming into contact with wildlife— some safe, some worrying. A race last weekend break in Kokonoe, a town in Japan’s Kusu area, was terminated after killer hornets collapsed an ekiden, a marathon-length relay race around the Kokonoe countryside.
Eighteen children’ groups from colleges in the Kyushu as well as Tokushima Prefectures were welcomed to complete in the ekiden. But while exercising on the program the day prior to the race, 22 rivals were stung by killer hornets, according to Japan Running News. The children suffered no major injuries, however at the very least 3 professional athletes from the Miyazaki as well as Kagoshima groups were required to the medical facility for therapy.
