Japanese saxophonists Wataru Hirai and Kenta Igarashi won prizes in the 8th International Adolphe Sax Competition held in Dinant, Belgium, with Saturday.
Hirai, 23, from Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture, took 4th area while Igarashi, 21, from Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, came in 5th in the competition, among one of the most prominent international competitions for classic saxophonists.
The occasion, held every 4 years in concept, started in 1994 in Dinant, the native home of Adolphe Sax, that developed the saxophone.
“I’m very happy I was selected a finalist. I’m relieved that it’s over,” Hirai claimed with a smile, speaking with press reporters after the competition.
