SHIZUOKA CITY, Japan (Reuters)– In a still sustained by cedar from neighboring woodlands, Shizuoka Distillery, a leader in Japan’s new age of independent whisky manufacturers, crafts its spirits to use rising international need.
This year notes the 100 year wedding anniversary of whisky making in Japan because the beginning of market leader Suntory’s initial distillery in Yamazaki in 1923.
And at the century mark, there are currently greater than 100 certified distilleries in the nation– two times as much as one decade back– with every one competing to make its mark in a quickly increasing market.
The cedar fire– which Shizuoka insurance claims is the globe’s only timber sustained blaze underneath a whisky still– is among a number of uniqueness these distilleries are utilizing to establish themselves apart.
